Hello Connection Members & Friends,

Photo of Sarah Bassing-Sutton

As we move through Mental Health Awareness Month, I want to thank everyone who joined us on May 4 for our “Wellness Through Connection” Member Meeting and Kickoff Breakfast.

Together, we launched this year’s campaign, in collaboration with our partner's - Hmong American Partnership Fox Valley, Inc., Multicultural Coalition, Inc.; NAMI Fox Valley, NEW HMong, and People of Progression - "to connect our community one meaningful moment at a time" through a community wide BINGO Challenge!

The BINGO Challenge activities are for all ages and celebrate the many ways connection strengthens mental health and well-being across our communities. Thank you for helping us build momentum around this effort. And if you weren’t able to join us, there’s still plenty of time to participate. And if you get BINGO you can enter to win rafflle prizes at the end of the month!

The Wellness through Connection BINGO Challenge encourages small, intentional acts of connection, such as checking in on a neighbor, inviting someone for a walk, attending a community event, listening without distractions, or reconnecting with an old friend. These moments may seem small, but they matter. Research continues to show that connection and belonging play an important role in mental health, resilience, and overall well-being.

BINGO cards, campaign information, and a social media toolkit are available on our website, and we encourage organizations and individuals alike to help spread the message throughout May. Get your BINGO card and toolkit here:
Mental Health Awareness Month BINGO Challenge

As we continue to recognize, validate, and elevate the powerful connection between mental wellbeing, relationships, culture, safety, and spaces where people feel seen and valued, we strengthen the mental health of our entire community and create meaningful, sustainable pathways for it to flourish.

We also invite you to explore upcoming Mental Health Awareness Month events on the community calendar on The Connection website. You can also click here for the meeting slides for a recap.

Thank you for being part of this growing movement to strengthen connection, belonging, and mental wellness across our region.

Crisis Intervention Partners (CIP) Training Scheduled for June

The Fox Valley Crisis Intervention Training Committee will host a two-day Crisis Intervention Partners (CIP) Training on June 9–10, 2026, at Catalpa Health in Appleton.

CIP is a 16-hour training modeled after the training component of Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) programs. While the training does not provide CIT certification, it offers participants a foundational understanding of mental illnesses, crisis response strategies, de-escalation techniques, and community-based mental health resources.

CIP is designed for a broad range of professionals who may encounter individuals experiencing mental health crises, including law enforcement officers, correctional staff, 911 dispatchers, emergency responders, hospital personnel, and community partners.

The core philosophy behind CIP is to improve safety, reduce unnecessary use of force, and strengthen identification, referral, and treatment planning for individuals living with mental illness.

Training Details
Dates: June 9 - 10, 2026
Time: 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. each day
Location: Catalpa Health, 4635 W. College Ave., Appleton, WI 54914

Upcoming CEU Training: Addressing Crisis Needs for Minoritized Youth

Join us for an upcoming training, Addressing Crisis Needs for Minoritized Youth. This interactive session explores how bias and systemic disparities impact crisis response for minoritized youth, who are often overrepresented in youth justice systems despite a growing emphasis on trauma-informed care. Participants will examine how decision-making within the helping professions can reinforce inequities and identify their role in creating more equitable, effective service delivery.

Through dialogue, small group discussion, and applied practice exercises, participants will build skills to better support minoritized youth in crisis and strengthen approaches that center equity and understanding. This training is free for Connection members, but advance registration is required. Visit our CEU training page for details and registration.
