Resources of Pregnant and Postpartum Families

Pregnant and postpartum parents can experience increased mental health risks due to hormonal shifts and the stress of parenthood. Pregnancy-related changes in hormones can affect mood, while their rapid drop after childbirth may trigger postpartum depression or anxiety. Sleep deprivation, exhaustion, and physical recovery can further strain emotional well-being. Early screening, intervention, and strong support systems are crucial for mental well-being.

Symptoms of hormonal changes that happen after birth, known as the “baby blues” include:

  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Feeling irritable
  • Feeling anxious
  • Mood swings, such as crying for no reason

While the baby blues typically go away within two weeks, some parents and partners will experience more severe symptoms that last longer, including:

  • Feelings of guilt, shame or hopelessness
  • Feelings of anger, rage or irritability, or scary and unwanted thoughts
  • Lack of interest in baby or difficulty bonding with the baby
  • Loss of interest, joy, or pleasure in things you used to enjoy
  • Disturbances of sleep and appetite
  • Crying and sadness, constant worrying, or racing thoughts
  • Physical symptoms like dizziness, hots flashes, and nausea
  • Possible thoughts of harming the baby or yourself

With the right help you WILL feel better! Below are local, regional and national resources that can help you connect to the right help for you.
