SUMMARY

The Executive Director, NEW Mental Health Connection provides strategic direction and operational leadership of the Northeastern Wisconsin Mental Health Connection (NEW MHC) that meets community and market needs. Leads a collaboration of community stakeholders to create and continuously improve an exceptional mental health system of care. Strives to promote a community culture that is mentally well and stigma-free. Cultivates a collaborative environment in the Fox Cities that connects community stakeholders and resources to improve the mental health of our communities. Incorporates an approach to behavioral health services that works across the continuum of behavioral health services to promote successful multidisciplinary programs that serve the needs of the communities we serve. Supports and promotes the mission, strategic vision, and values of the NEW MHC.

REQUIREMENTS

Education/Training:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Relevant experience in Business, Leadership, mental health, community building, or nonprofit management

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of successful leadership experience in public setting, government, health care, or business.
  • Experience in staff supervision, successful grant writing, team building, working with volunteers and member organizations

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Initiative, excellent written and verbal communication skills, mature, critical thinking skills, demonstrated leadership qualities, values-oriented and confident presentation style.
  • Skills of backbone leaders: results-based, equity-focused, political savvy, project management, inclusive culture, adaptive leadership

JOB DESCRIPTION

Strategic Planning:

  • Assists NEW MHC Board with Strategic Planning.
  • Work with the Board to establish and execute Strategy.
  • Cultivate a collaborative environment in the Fox Cities which enables the attainment of our mission.
  • Lead fund raising efforts including both grants and donations.
  • Prepare grant proposals for new funding, monitor/administrate secured grants (including data collection, written reports, interviews, and fiscal management of restricted funds)
  • Lead recruitment and management of member, funder, partner relationships.
  • Exemplifies, communicates and demonstrates the mission, role, philosophy and organizational values of NEW MHC.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of long-range strategic plan within the parameters of NEW MHC.  Annually reviews the key elements and develops goals with appropriate action plans.
  • Maintain strong relationships with outside provider organizations, state-county agencies, and community based providers, payers, academic institutions, consumers, law enforcement, schools, and other key stakeholders.

Leadership-Management Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate all committee activities to assure committee success
  • Issues/tasks may include provider relations, clinical/academic affiliations, marketing, consumer affairs, public relations, community support.
  • Oversight of contracts/Agreements related to NEW MHC.
  • Promotes a learning environment for personal and professional development through the provision of opportunities for team members.
  • Represents NEW MHC on designated committees and or boards.
  • Participates in the marketing of services.
  • Actively participates in community, local, regional and national professional organizations to maintain a current knowledge of behavioral health developments both locally and nationally.
  • Works with community stakeholders to seek and obtain funding that moves our community forward.
  • Completes related assignments as requested by the NEW MHC Board of Directors.
  • Assists in recruiting, developing and retaining talented staff members.
  • Provides support, training, consultation, and supervision to staff members.
  • Leads staff in establishing annual goals and action plans; links staff to organizational vision; meets individually with staff members to link performance to overall goals and action plans; leads/facilitates weekly “huddle” (team meeting).
  • Organizes, distributes, and delegates work to staff fairly and impartially. Provides clear and appropriate direction to staff. Ensures staff has resources and flexibility to perform, improve and learn in their jobs.
  • Positively motivates, mentors and leads staff. Provides appropriate and timely performance evaluations for all staff.
