Project Safeguard, a local implementation of the Gun Shop Project and Safe Storage Program, was the featured “spotlight” project at the Sept. 12, 2024 member meeting. Project Safeguard is focused on lethal means security, including educating gun shop owners and firearm retailers on suicide prevention, and options to provide temporary and voluntary safe storage of firearms.
Also, during the September meeting, Sarah Bassing-Sutton, who leads Project Zero for The Connection, gave an update of the project’s adult suicide prevention work, including recent Tri-County suicide trend data, and news about a new workgroup being convened to develop community suicide prevention strategies.
