A Message from our new Executive Director, Sarah Bassing-Sutton

Dear Connection Members, Partners & Friends

I am truly honored to step into the role of Executive Director of the Northeast Wisconsin Mental Health Connection. It is a privilege to continue the important work of this organization alongside such a dedicated network of professionals, advocates, and community members who share a deep commitment to improving mental health in our region.

As many of you know, I have been with The Connection since January of 2020 leading Project Zero, our initiative focused on adult suicide prevention. Just a few months after stepping into that position, the COVID-19 pandemic took hold and dramatically impacted every aspect of our lives, including increasing the demand for mental health resources. It was a time that required The Connection to be nimble, innovative, and deeply responsive to emerging community needs. That experience reinforced my understanding of the power of collaboration and data-driven solutions to address complex challenges, and I carry that same approach into this new role.

Now, stepping into the position of Executive Director we again find ourselves amid turbulent times which has created uncertainty for nonprofits, schools, businesses, healthcare systems, community organizations and individuals. Many of our neighbors, who have historically experienced disparate physical and mental health outcomes, are being further impacted by some of the federal policy changes and executive orders.

Our Mission: The mission of The Connection is to lead a coalition of diverse stakeholders to champion mental health for everyone in the Fox Valley by addressing barriers, challenging systems, creating solutions, and prioritizing care and support.

“Addressing barriers, challenging systems, creating solutions, and prioritizing care” is at the heart of The Connection’s mission, and we will continue to work toward systems-level changes focused on our values which include equity, innovation, and collaboration. We remain committed to being adaptable and proactive, bringing together you, our members, stakeholders and voices of lived experience to ensure that we build a more resilient and mentally well community. The Connection’s work is guided by community need, informed by research and data, and grounded in the core belief that we must focus interventions on those disproportionately impacted to improve conditions for all. We remain deeply committed to this approach.

Together, we will continue the work of collective impact to accomplish work that can only be done by all of us together – improving the mental health system of care in the Tri-County for all. I look forward to shepherding The Connection to advance this critical mission.

Thank you for your continued dedication and partnership

Sincerely,

Sarah Bassing-Sutton, Executive Director
The Connection

Please share our ‘Mind Your Wellness Survey 2.0’

Help us collect 3,200 reponses!

We still have a ways to go to collect more than 3,000 survey responses from adults in Calumet, Outagamie and Winnebago counties. Please help us collect more!
This survey, led by The Connection in partnership with Medical College of Wisconsin, provides an in-depth look into the mental health of adults in the Fox Cities and is used to inform community recommendations for prevention and support.
We first launched this survey three years ago, which informed the report “Mental Health & Suicide Prevention Recommendations,” released in November 2022.
Since that time, we’ve made progress, and the revised survey is designed with cultural considerations in mind to ensure mental health equity for all.
We invite you to share this survey far and wide with your networks, to ensure we reach a diverse and representative sample of adults.
Here’s how you can help us spread the survey:
Print out copies of the flyer. Display in your workplace!
